Five Pillars of Our Mission

Our Story

Reksabumi Foundation was co-founded by Sonya Syafitri and Rico Wallenta, a husband-and-wife team with over two decades of experience in humanitarian response, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development across Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Through their work with UN agencies and international NGOs, they witnessed firsthand the deep connections between environmental degradation, disaster vulnerability, and social inequality — especially in communities most at risk. These experiences shaped their shared belief: that real, lasting impact happens when people and nature are supported together.

After years of global service, they returned to their roots in West Sumatra to establish Reksabumi — a foundation built on the idea of blending global best practices with local wisdom to protect ecosystems, strengthen communities, and build a better future.

“Reksabumi is our way of giving back — drawing on everything we’ve learned around the world, and investing it in the communities and environments we care most about.”

Their work today reflects that same mission — connecting people, nature, and resilience with compassion, expertise, and long-term commitment. They are supported by a dedicated team of seasoned professionals, technical experts, volunteers, and local communities.
